Understanding EDTA Chelation-not Propaganda

EDTA chelation means, verbatim, ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid chelation. This is a revolutionary method of cleansing toxic metals and treating atherosclerosis that has taken quite a bit of flack from the medical community in the United States while successfully used elsewhere. The idea of introducing EDTA into the body as a form of cleansing and treatment is not quite as new as many perceive. In fact, in 1976 it was successfully used to treat a well known case of over-exposure to heavy metals and near definite levels of deadly toxic substances. Once several cases such as these were recognized throughout the world, EDTA chelation began to develop steam as an alternative method of treatment for a number of serious medical problems, including the hardening of the arteries.

Approved for use in alternative medicines back in 1973, the American College for Advancement in Medicine deemed that when appropriately administered and appropriately monitored EDTA chelation had a unique ability to help clear the arteries of some patients of calcium build up and other fragment deposits that lead to hardening of the arteries, strokes, heart attacks, and other chronic life threatening conditions. So why all the propaganda discounting the use of EDTA chelation?

It takes years upon years of testing and often millions of dollars to generate enough evidence to even include the testing of any drug or treatment to warrant sanctioning or criticism from the American Food and Drug Administration. Often without the sufficient funds, recognition, timeliness, or the ability to provide enough potential case studies, the FDA won't even touch the possibility that a drug or therapy might be useful. During the time period that the FDA was adamantly refusing to evaluate this new and unusual way of treating such serious conditions, EDTA chelation was being used to treat patients that wanted to exhaust every possibility before submitting to more invasive procedures like open heart surgery. With its mounting success, more and more patients were drawn to trying out something that had a good success rate that didn't involve surgical intervention.

Can EDTA chelation therapy work for you? It is possible, and in fact highly probably considering that over 75% of patients who try it not only feel better but actually start to become symptom free. Does it work for everyone? Of course not. Nothing out there can claim a 100% success rate because the human body is an intricate and rather fluid element. The propaganda that surrounds the idea of cleansing out the body in order to alleviate diseases is based on fear, misunderstanding, and bias toward conventional medical treatments including open heart surgery. Nothing in this world, from walking across the street to taking aspirin for a headache is guaranteed. We can create as much propaganda around these treatments if we like. Understanding and evaluating EDTA chelation for what it is can really help a patient make a more informed decision regarding what is best for him or her.
